Job Details :

BLAST is a leading national legal aid and human rights organisation providing legal advice, mediation, and litigation services to those living in poverty or facing discrimination/social exclusion (in particular women) and undertaking research and advocacy. It works through its Head Office in Dhaka and 19 District-level Offices with an overall aim of reducing poverty, inequality and discrimination.

BLAST seeks a qualified and experienced Staff Lawyer for its Chittagong Unit. This position is under WEARS Project. 

The position of "Staff Lawyer" is required to ensure justice for women, men and children living in poverty or disadvantage or in marginalized communities, and to attain and uphold their human rights through legal aid including advice, awareness raising, mediation and litigation as needed, including necessary follow up
 
Job Responsibilities:
 
To interview the clients and record their application.
 
To check and maintain files, registers and case diary regarding cases as per guideline.
 
To scrutinize the case paper and analyze the merit of the case and as per guideline.
 
To appear before the court as required, particularly in family cases.

To conduct mediation meetings as and when necessary.
 
To issue letters regarding the cases to the panel lawyers.
 
To prepare and examine the legal service bill as per guideline.

To maintain regular contact with beneficiaries.
 
To maintain records of engaged panel lawyers.

Prepare monthly/quarterly/half yearly/yearly legal statements / reports regarding applications received, mediation, litigation and cases studies as per guidelines,
 
To conduct/organise/attend meetings, workshops, seminars and training courses.

To follow instructions of the Head Office and the Unit Coordinator.

To perform all other duties as and when required by the authority..

Educational Qualification :

Minimum LLB degree from any reputed institution with at least three years of experience.

Requirements :

Enrolled with Bangladesh Bar Council as an Advocate including at least 3 years practical experience in respective local courts.
Commitment to handle BLAST's cases
Sound managerial skill
Ability to work in team
Good writing, speaking and research skills both in Bangla and English
Proficient in MS Office

Job Benefits :

Two festival bonuses equivalent to one month's basic salary payable after successful completion of 6 months' probation period
